Open to Juniors and Seniors
Certified Nursing Assistant and Emergency Medical Technician is a district offered CTE class open to juniors and seniors within Academy District 20. CNA & EMT is an application-based class and is approved at the district level. Liberty High School is proud to offer these classes on-site and taught by Pikes Peak State College instructors.
What will my student learn through the program?
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) - In this course, students prepare for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam by applying foundational healthcare skills to the practice of basic emergency pre-hospital client care. Through classroom simulations and clinical experiences, students will demonstrate an understanding of basic anatomy and psychology, patient assessment, communication strategies, and emergency medical interventions.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - In this course, students will prepare for the nurse aide certification exam by expanding foundational healthcare skills and applying basic nursing theory to the practice of client care. Through lab-based simulations and clinical experiences, students will demonstrate nursing principles and competencies, restorative services, safety practices, and emergency care while they model professional skills.
This is a set of college courses offered through Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) and taught by PPSC instructors. Students who are accepted must enroll at PPSC and grades posted on transcripts will apply to both PPSC and Academy District 20. This is a year-long double block course held at Liberty High School. ASD20 does provide transportation to and from home high schools for the AM sections only. Students enrolled in afternoon sections will need to provide their own transportation to and from Liberty High School.
Who can apply?
Incoming juniors and seniors may apply. Applications for our CTE classes open in the spring for the following school year.
CNA - Students cannot begin clinicals and take the certifying exam until they reach the age of 16. Students must be 16 within 12 months of enrollment in the program.
EMT- Students cannot begin clinicals or take the national exam until they reach the age of 18. Students must be 18 within 12 months of enrollment in the program.

CNA - College readiness in reading and math.

How long is the program?
CNA is a year-long class and is a two-block class with clinicals.

What will students receive at program completion?
CNA students who complete the CNA program will walk away with:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certificate of Training. Including:6 credit/135 credit hour Nursing Assistant Course with 30 lecture hours, 45 lab hours, and 60 clinical hours through Pikes Peak State College.
4 Core Elective High School Credits (2 per/semester) & College Credit
EMT Students who complete the EMT program will walk away with:
National Registry Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) Certification
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate of Completion from Pikes Peak State College - Division of Health & Sciences

Are there any fees?
CNA & EMT Fees: $100 for program supplies and expenses. Students must also pay for the background check (approximately $75) and liability insurance (approximately $25) before they can engage in clinicals. Student will also be responsible for the cost of the board exams (approximately $150).
